Although Birch Bark Lodge may be remote, it isn’t lacking in amenities and incredible personalized service. Birch Bark Lodge operators Mike and Kim Pierson treat visitors like long-lost family, catering to those looking for a truly memorable fishing and hunting retreat.
Lacking any competition from other hunters or lodges, the Birch Bark Lodge moose hunting experience is a total escape to the secluded wilderness. Just bring your gear, weapon of choice, and spend a week chasing the trophy of a lifetime! What you’ll experience is a hunt unlike most!!
I had the opportunity to get owner Kim Pierson out of the lodge to have a little fishing competition. I learned quickly that Kim was more than a little competitive when it comes to fishing (Mike did warn me…LOL). Let’s just say I met my match. Luckily, the walleye fishing was fast paced and we literally caught our dinner in 10 minutes. We had a blast sharing lots of laughs, catching walleyes with different techniques—even catching them on big pike crankbaits! Wigwascense walleye are HUNGRY!!
This wasn’t my first trip to Birch Bark Lodge and definitely won’t be my last. I became good friends with Mike and Kim Pierson during my first visit, which is why most of their guests become repeat customers, returning year after year.

My trip to Birch Bark Lodge was everything I hoped it would be. The peacefulness and beauty was evident immediately after stepping off the plane. I found the remote scenery calming and there is plenty of it t explore.
My hopes of a great outdoor experience were exceeded by the incredible hunting, harvesting great bull on day 4, in “the channel” by “the rub”. The fishing (catching) is the best I have ever seen in my life.
The cabins are clean and comfortable and I slept well throughout our stay. We returned to camp one evening after a rain soaked hunt for “Willy”, to a stoked up stove and a nice warm cabin. That evening we tested out the sauna as well !!. The walk-in cooler is huge asset to Birch Bark Lodge.
Mike and Kim made our experience fabulous by exceeding all needs. Their friendliness and camaraderie exceeded our expectations. They are great people and are what makes Birch Bark Lodge a destination to return to !! This experience was everything I’d hoped for and more. I can’t wait to return !!!

Birch Bark Lodge on lake Wigwascence opened in 2015, I had the privilege of being one of the first persons on the lake in 2016 and one of the last parties fishing the lake in the fall of 2016. I have never fished a better walleye fishery!! In one hour in one location, our boat caught a 2.5 to 3 pound walleye with every cast for the first 20 minutes. For the next 20 minutes, it took two casts to catch 2.5 to 3 pound walleyes. Finally in the last 20 minutes and still without leaving that same fishing hole, it took 3 casts to catch a 2.5 to 3 pound walleyes.
I also have never had better fly-in fishing accommodations, or better hosts than Mike and Kim the owners. I have another spring trip planned in 2017.

I’ve had the fortune of fishing more bodies of water in the US and Canada than most, and I must say, Birch Bark Lodge has a really hot bite. Our trip here produced the best walleye action any of us had experienced. The cool thing was, they weren’t 14″ walleye. Countless walleyes a day with most all 18″ and bigger with some real dandies. You seriously have walleyes biting anything you use including big pike baits all the time!! You’ll also want to target pike while your here, the system holds some true giants
Aside from the fishing Mike and Kim are phenomenal hosts. The setting is ultra remote, but Mike and Kim make sure you have everything you need. They let you set the pace of your trip and are there to do as much or as little as you want. Birch Bark Lodge has great fishing, a great setting. great food and great hosts. If you want a great Ontario fly-in experience, I’d strongly recommend Birch Bark Lodge. Its the best place I’ve been for quality walleye action!!

We landed on Lake Wigwascence 17 Sept 2016 for my first moose hunt with some hunting buddies. Something I’ve wanted to do for 40 years. On the flight in you see you are in total wilderness. After landing, what struck me was what a beautiful place this is. As we unloaded the plane we were introduced to Mike and Kim Pierson our hosts. They are a very personable couple. Within minutes they made me feel as if I had found lost family members, they made me feel so comfortable and I really enjoyed their company. There was not a want or need that the two of them did not care of.
The lodge is very comfortable place to gather for meals (Kim is an extraordinary cook) also (fresh homemade bread daily) and to shoot the breeze in the evening. If you do not have Kim and Mike cook your meals you are making a mistake!! The log cabins we resided in were very comfortable. The bedrooms are plenty roomy and my bed was quite comfortable. I slept very well. The lodge and cabins are all connected by boardwalks. I could not have asked for better accommodations. They have a nice sauna which I used nightly.
Then there is the hunt, as soon as you leave the camp it hits you. “This is the wilderness hunt you dreamed of for years” You will not run out of area to hunt, when you get your moose Mike has a walk in cooler to keep the meat so it does not spoil. Then there is the fishing or should that be “catching” best walleye fishing there is!!
Birch Bark Lodge is a GREAT place to go for hunting and fishing. Mike and Kim are wonderful hosts you will not find better. (Remember I mentioned Kim is a great cook) It is an experience you will never forget. It was a once in a lifetime hunt for me, that all changed when Matt my buddy and I killed our first moose (a nice bull)
We have reservations at Birch Bark Lodge for another moose hunt in 2018, don’t miss out, book a trip to Birch Bark Lodge

The Real Deal TV show came to Birch Bark Lodge for a moose hunt/fishing trip. From the moment our feet hit the dock to the second we left we were thrilled with our experience. Mike and Kim run a REALLY incredible camp. This is a remote camp, so being that remote you might not expect running water (not only at the shower, but even at the fish cleaning station, cabin and lodge) Nor would one expect a walk in meat cooler to keep your moose and other perishables fresh and cool. The last thing anyone would expect at a remote fly in camp would be a SAUNA….yes a sauna.
-INCREDIBLE fishing
-Large cabins, very clean and comfortable
-Meals were outstanding (I’ve stayed at 4 and 5 star resorts and not eaten that well)
-The entire lake to yourself. No other fishing/hunting pressure from anyone else
-I would bring my family here in a heartbeat!!
-If you come once you will probably want to book again

I have been to many fishing camps in Canada. I love Birch Bark Lodge! I was there in June 2016 and then again in September. Hospitality is great, great food, super walleye fishing. Average fish 2-4 lbs and excellent cabins. In September Lindners Anglers Edge was up shooting a show and they said they couldn’t keep the walleyes off their hooks. I will be coming back in 2017 as well!!

Dear Birch Bark Lodge,
I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you for your hospitality and for the unbelievable experience. This was my first fly in fishing trip and I couldn’t have been more impressed. The fishing was unbelievable to say the least. We had several times where we caught hundreds of Walleyes!! The amenities far exceeded my expectations. When one thinks of a fly in resort one doesn’t expect to have hot showers, but Birch Bark has them. Needless to say I will return next year! You are not going to find a better place in my mind.
Thank you again Birch Bark Lodge (Mike and Kim Pierson)

Opening weekend 2016 of Ontario fishing.Caught lots of walleye and northerns. We ate fresh walleye each nite. Facilities were top notch with hot showers and water to cabins. Very nice Lund wide boats with 15 hp 4 stroke Mercury motors. Large lake and river to fish. Would come back every year. It was a great experience.

The moment you step off the float plane at Birch Bark Lodge, you know you’ve come to a special place. The quiet and solitude you experience, combined with the service of a small, family run resort will leave you with memories for a lifetime.
The cabins are comfortable and the lodge has a true north woods feel and the food is excellent and ample. Mike and Kim take good care of you and make you feel like a part of the family.
Moose are plentiful, and filling our tags was relatively easy. I’ve been to numerous wilderness camps, and never have I had the fishing like you will find at lake Wigwascence. It is nothing to catch 100 walleye in a day, and I caught my largest pike (22#) just a stones throw from the dock while waiting for the float plane.
Book your trip with Birch Bark Lodge, you won’t be disappointed!

I was at Birch Bark Lodge in September. I have been to numerous fly-out camps in Ontario and this was the best fishing I’ve ever had. The camp was really nice. Looking forward to going back this spring.

I hunted with Birch Bark Lodge in the 2015 moose season. Having hunted for over 40 years in Canada and the Western states, Birch Bark Lodge is one of the finest fly-in lodges you will find. Mike and Kim have made many improvements with more to come. They go out of their way to assist with all your needs and wants. I was not able to fill my cow tag but did let some very nice bulls walk away. My two sons and I are booked for the 2016 season with the intent of bringing some of those bulls home! Bring your fishing rods as the river is FULL of 16-20 inch walleyes.

My first moose hunt was a success and a pleasure with Birch Bark Lodge. From the moment we stepped off the plane to the dock at Wigwascence lake we had a great time. Mike and Kim went above and beyond to ensure we had a great trip. All our meals were great and Kim was more than willing to change and adjust to any changes in meals or schedules for eating we had.
The cabins were great with comfortable beds and having the wood stoves stoked up when we returned from hunting each day felt great! Coffee was ready by the time we woke up each morning. The boats and motors are top notch and worked great.
This truly is a remote area and if you don’t bring it in you won’t have it. (unless you request ahead of time) The silence and amazing starlight and unspoiled wilderness, make this a world class destination.
I was fortunate enough to harvest a great bull moose on the first day. We saw several other bulls some bigger than I had shot and my hunting partner tagged out with a great cow moose on the last day. (we had a bull and cow tag)
In addition to the wilderness hunting experience, the fishing was AMAZING! It is truly not fishing but catching! It is easy to catch 75 to 100 walleyes per person each day. In addition to the great walleye fish, Wigwascence Lake is home to some of the biggest Northern Pike anywhere!
Book your trip to fish or hunt with Birch Bark Lodge for a trip of a lifetime!
